Design Tip: Using textures & patterns
The world of stripes, checks, plaids and paisleys can seem overwhelming at first, but a few basic guidelines can take the mystery out of mixing and matching!
Match the scale of the prints to the size of the room. Large prints will crowd a small room, while small prints can get lost in a large room.
Combine patterns with a similar scale, ex: a calico floral print works with a fine stripe or gingham check, but a large tropical print needs bold stripes or large checks to balance it.
To keep the room from becoming too busy, balance patterns with areas of solid color.
